THE PHILOSOPHY SHOP
Philosophy means the love of learning - or friendship of wisdom.

In the 4th Century BCE Epicurus and his followers acquired a piece of land to which they retreated and called ‘The Garden’, where they discussed philosophy amicably and enjoyed a simple lifestyle of friendship, thought and cheese.

We run monthly philosophy meetings at The Kirkdale Bookshop, Sydenham and The Garage, Forest Hill. Our aim is to combine a study of the subject with an emphasis on philosophy as an activity: we are doing philosophy.

Sessions include topics such as moral dilemmas; freedom of the will & determinism; personal identity; the external world; Plato’s Cave; political philosophy; art, science and many more.

Please have a look at our resource page for podcasts, reading lists, literature and film recommendations.

We also run an after school clubs for children and residential courses in philosophy.

Places are limited to 9 per session, if you would like to join us please email or call 020 8699 9314. Sessions are paid for in advance and are £5 each (cheese and wine provided by the group!).
