Welcome to The Philosophy Shop website. We promote the practical application of philosophy in the community and specifically philosophy in primary schools.

Peter Worley our founder and Co-Director started teaching philosophy in primary schools 6 years ago, and now works full time in the London Borough of Lewisham teaching philosophy in 14 different primary schools to all age groups from Year 1 - 6. Peter also runs INSET training for teachers.

We are committed to the fact that through the rational investigation of existence, ethics and knowledge children are able to realise lots of benefits, including raised IQ, raised self-confidence and improved emotional intelligence. We provide training for qualified philosophers on how to practically employ philosophical methods in a classroom situation. Our programme of philosophy in primary schools aligns with the national curriculum and teaches children to think critically and ethically about themes raised there.

Adults as well as children can benefit from philosophy. Peter is a trained philosophical counsellor, registered with the Society for Philosophy in Practice, and we run monthly adult philosophy groups, as well residential courses. If you would like to be on our mailing list about these courses please email us.

Here is a recent interview on the BBC World Service: The World Today about philosophy in schools with Peter and A.C. Grayling.
