Year 3 at Eliot Bank Primary School, Forest Hill

Our philosophy sessions have been linked with an increase in cognitive abilities in schools we are currently working in. Teachers and other education professionals observing our sessions are reporting an increase in reasoning and communication skills, with the pupils saying that they are learning how to approach problems more creatively, to think more deeply, to develop a train of thought and appreciate another point of view.

A Consultant Philosopher brings specialist philosophical knowledge and skills. The sessions are not only an opportunity for the students to speak their minds in a structured environment, but they will also learn the importance of justifying what they believe. They will also learn philosophical thinking skills as well as the history of ideas and some important philosophical questions and themes e.g. morality, virtue, knowledge and mind. Our philosophy sessions can be aligned with the National Curriculum (see sessions).

“Over the last week or so we’ve been asking you for ideas about what subjects ought to be taught in schools but are not taught. Now, there have been many suggestions...but the overwhelming winner - you may be surprised by this - was philosophy.”
